Trauma Questions:

What does trauma-informed therapy mean?

Trauma-informed therapy recognizes that past experiences can affect emotions, relationships, and the nervous system. Healing does not require remembering or describing every detail—many people experience trauma more as feelings or body reactions, and therapy can help process those responses at a pace that feels safe.

What is EMDR therapy and how does it work?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy approach that helps the brain process distressing experiences that may still affect emotions, beliefs, and reactions in the present. During EMDR, a therapist guides the client in briefly focusing on aspects of a difficult experience while using bilateral stimulation such as eye movements or tapping. This process helps the brain reprocess the memory so it becomes less emotionally overwhelming.

Disclaimer: I am currently completing EMDR certification training and use EMDR with appropriate cases such as anxiety, distressing experiences, or single-event trauma. Clients with more complex trauma needs may be referred to clinicians with advanced EMDR specialization when appropriate.

EMDR therapy is available in person in Oklahoma City and through online therapy for clients across Oklahoma and Oregon.
